PM Modi Launched Fit India Movement: The much anticipated Fit India Movement has been finally launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of National Sports day. The event was organized at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi where PM Modi made the announcement. For the duration of the launch, the Prime Minister said, “Only a fit person, fit family, and a fit society will pave way for a great and new India.”
At the ceremony, presentation of India’s indigenous martial art forms, dances, and sports were also included. PM Modi said technology has backed to an inactive lifestyle.
“Fitness is zero percent investment with infinite returns,” Modi said at the event.
The main objective of Fit India Movement is to encourage Indians to take part in fitness activities and sports in their daily lives in order to lead a healthy and fit lifestyle. For the duration of his speech on Fit India, the Prime Minister said that fitness is not merely a term but a positive approach to lead a healthy life.
He also further added that “On this day, a great sportsperson was born, Major Dhyan Chand and he surprised the world with his fitness, stamina, and hockey stick.”
At the event, PM Modi said that the technology has contributed to an inactive lifestyle.
“Fitness has always been an integral part of our culture. But, there is indifference towards fitness issues now. A few decades back, a normal person would walk 8-10km in a day, do cycling or run,” Modi said.
“But, with technology, physical activity has reduced. We walk less now and the same technology tells us that we are not walking enough,” he added.
The launch was also attended by Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju and National Sports Awards 2019 winners among many others.
Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju at the launch said, “We will take this movement to new heights with the cooperation of my fellow Indians. I am so glad that this movement is being launched on the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, our hockey wizard,”
The Prime Minister also added that the foreign nations like the US, UK, Germany, China, and Australia have already set targets in order to make their way for healthier and fitter nations with their own campaigns.
At the event, the prime minister also congratulated the winners of the national sports awards and praised sporting achievements by Indian players and athletes.
He praised Indian players and athletes by saying, “Be it boxing, badminton, tennis or any sport, our athletes are giving new wings to our aspirations. Their medals are not just a result of their hard work but also a reflection of a new India’s confidence,”
