Irrfan Khan Career and Some Unknown Facts

Irrfan Khan real name was Sahabzade Irfan Ali Khan and professionally he was simply known as Irrfan Khan or Irrfan.

In the year 2012, Irrfan khan has also changed his from “Irfan” to “Irrfan” and said that he liked the extra ‘r’ sound in his name.

Later on, Irrfan Khan has also dropped “Khan” from his name and the reason he explained in a 2016 interview, where he said that he wanted his work to define him, and not his lineage.

In the early day of his career to become an actor, Irrfan Khan struggled a lot and has worked as a tutor, repairman, etc.

Irrfan Khan major breakthrough was after appearing in the British film “The Warrior”, where his work was recognized and highly praised. After which his roles in the dramas like Haasil (2003) and Maqbool (2004), Slumdog Millionaire (2008), The Namesake (2006), Life in a… Metro (2007), Paan Singh Tomar (2011), The Lunchbox (2013), Piku (2015), and Talvar (2015) among many gave him worldwide popularity.

He has also worked in Hollywood films such as The Amazing Spider-Man (2012), Life of Pi (2012), Jurassic World (2015), and Inferno (2016).

Once in an interview, Irrfan said that in the year 1993, he can’t afford to watch Jurassic Park, but later in 2015, he appeared in one part of Jurassic Park.

He has also appeared in several dramas such as Bharat Ek Khoj, Chanakya, among many.

Irrfan Khan, in the year 2011 also won the Padma Shri award.

His highest-grossing Indian film was comedy-drama Hindi Medium (2017), for which he was also awarded the Filmfare Award for Best Actor. His final film appearance was in Angrezi Medium (2020), which was the sequel of Hindi Medium.

Irrfan Khan got married his love of life on 23 February 1995, his fellow NSD graduate and writer Sutapa Sikdar.

Illness and Death 

Irrfan Khan was diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumour which he revealed through a tweet in his twitter handle in March 2018. He went to the UK for a year for the treatment, after which he returned in February 2019 and started the shooting of his last film, Angrezi Medium (2020), which was the sequel of his highest-grossing comedy-drama Hindi Medium (2017).

On 28 April 2020, he was admitted to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai where he started receiving treatment for a colon infection. But later on the following day, he died at the age of 53, from the infection. All the fans, several Indian celebrities such as Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan etc., paid tributes online upon the news of his death.
